About the Community of Gem Lake
The City of Gem Lake is located in the Northeast Area of the Twin Cities Metro Area. The City of Gem Lake encompasses a land area of approximately 721 acres which includes a 38 acre lake and attendant wetlands. Much of the city is wooded especially in the central portion around the waterbody called Gem Lake. There are curently 147 single family residences in the city. 36 businesses are located in the "Hoffman Corners" business area around the intersection of Hwy 61 and County Rd E.
The population of the City of Gem Lake has remained fairly constant in the last 20 years with an average population of about 420 persons. The city is also served by the businesses in the adjacent communities of White Bear Lake, White Bear Township, Vadnais Heights and a major regional shopping center in Maplewood.
